Business & Innovation - QINETIQ Wins Typhoon Combat Aircraft Contract Worth £127 MillionPublished: Tuesday, 12th January 2021
A business which has operations in Worcestershire wins £127 Million contract from UK MOD.
QinetiQ, which has operations in Worcestershire, Hampshire and Wiltshire, has secured a new five-year contract from the UK MOD to provide engineering services for the Typhoon combat aircraft.
The new £127 million contract will see QinetiQ delivering a wide range of services in support of the multi-role fighter from planning and acceptance through to regulatory assurance and trials support, as well as initiatives to optimise the in-service capabilities of the aircraft. The company’s knowledge and expertise will play a central role in the Typhoon radar development programme and data analytics for operational missions.
The Typhoon continues to extend its capabilities and performance through a structured development programme that is helping to maximise the aircraft as a sophisticated weapon system to meet both the current and projected priorities of the Royal Air Force.
Nic Anderson, QinetiQ Group Managing Director Air & Space, said: “Through the Engineering Delivery Partner (EDP) framework we provide essential engineering expertise to UK MOD and are proud to contribute to the UK’s critical defence capabilities through the Typhoon programme. This significant contract takes total orders through EDP to over £500m since inception two years ago – an excellent example of our strategy in action, delivering significant savings and innovation for the UK MOD.”
The award of this new contract has taken the total value of orders awarded within the first two years of EDP to more than £500 million. EDP is enabling UK MOD to deliver programmes more efficiently and effectively and is now firmly established as the default route-to-market for engineering services for DE&S, providing both capacity and capability across all service areas and increasing the engagement with SME’s within the defence sector supply chain. Delivering significant savings, minimising delays and acting as a catalyst for innovation in engineering services, EDP has received over 1,000 tasking orders since its inception in October 2018.
