Worcestershire County Council: Good News for Worcestershire's EconomyPublished: Tuesday, 28th July 2020
There has been some positive news for Worcestershire’s economy.
Local agents have begun to receive inquiries about potential investment opportunities at development sites such as the Worcester Six Business Park. Events are starting to take place again at the Three Counties Showground in Malvern and additional funds are to be invested to stimulate economic growth.
The lockdown is expected to effect economies up and down the country but Councillor Ken Pollock, Cabinet Member with Responsibility for Economy and Infrastructure is optimistic for Worcestershire:
“There is no doubt that the last four months have been very difficult for our business community. We are talking to potential investors in Worcester Six Business Park and that is very encouraging. The reintroduction of events at Three Counties Showground is a welcome step forward and as customer confidence grows, our shops and our hospitality sector will see more customers coming through their doors.
“It is vital we continue to support businesses through this period and that is why we are investing in an economic recovery programme for Worcestershire and we are working very closely with district council colleagues and our other partners to help as many businesses as we can.”
Worcestershire County Council has launched a new programme designed to help local businesses get back on track. Here2Help Business is providing financial support and consultancy advice to help kickstart the local economy.
Worcestershire Local Enterprise Partnership(LEP) has been allocated £12 million by Central Government to further support the economic recovery through the delivery of capital projects. The funding will enable investment in priority projects to drive local growth and jobs.
Phoebe Dawson, Director for Inward Investments and Partnerships at Worcestershire Local Enterprise Partnership said: “We are delighted to welcome the news of this additional funding, in Worcestershire we have an excellent record of delivering local projects that make a difference, on schedule. We are determined to work with our partners to help both businesses and residents bounce back from the lockdown. We will continue to make Worcestershire a connected, creative, dynamic economy for all.”
